The story begins with Ayurveda, India's ancient wisdom, which for thousands of years recommended storing water in a copper vessel (Tamra Jal) for purification and health benefits. This tradition created the original demand for copper containers. Today, this craft thrives in workshops (karkhana) echoing with the rhythmic sound of hammers. The artisan’s skill is an inheritance, passed down through generations.
From Flat Sheet to Finished Form
The bottle's journey starts with a flat, unyielding disc of pure copper.
• Shaping the Vessel: The artisan places the disc on a rotating lathe or anvil, shaping it from a pot into a glass, and finally, into the slender bottle body. • The Signature Hammering: This is the soul of the handmade bottle. Using specialized tools, the artisan works the copper in rapid, repetitive motion—a process called hammering (Thokai). This action not only strengthens the metal but creates the bottle's iconic textured surface. • Assembly and Detail: Separate pieces (body, base, neck, cap) are carefully joined using soldering to ensure a leak-proof, food-grade seal. Precision is critical, especially in aligning the bottle neck and cap threads. • Finishing Touches: The dull, raw metal is transformed through vigorous polishing, often with natural agents like lemon and salt, to bring out a brilliant shine. For decorative styles, a master engraver etches intricate Floral or Geometric patterns, turning a functional object into a work of art.

Copper Bottle Cleaning & Care Guide
The Nature of Copper
Due to Oxidation, copper naturally develops brown, black, or aqua-green shades over time from air and water exposure. These changes are a sign of copper's authentic nature and are completely safe. Keep your bottle clean regularly as outlined below.
Internal Cleaning (Inside the Bottle)
The interior of your copper bottle should be cleaned using a simple, natural solution:
• Fill Hot Water: Fill the bottle with hot water. • Add Natural Cleanser: Pour Lemon and Salt into the water. • Shake and Rinse: Shake the bottle well to allow the solution to clean the inside surface, and then rinse thoroughly. • Final Rinse: Rinse the bottle again with fresh water.
External Cleaning (Outside the Bottle)
To restore the brilliant shine on the exterior surface:
• Rub Salt & Lemon: Take a piece of lemon, sprinkle some salt on it, and gently rub the mixture directly on the exterior surface of the bottle. The oxidation will lift almost instantly.
Drying and Maintenance
• Dry Completely: Dry the bottle thoroughly with a soft cloth twice to prevent immediate water spots or mineral buildup.
